Minneapple Adventures: Art-A-Whirl + Some Food, Too

Did you make it to Art-A-Whirl last weekend? This year was my first time attending and I was thoroughly impressed. It was one of those events and weekends in general that made me so over-the-top happy that we moved back to Minneapolis.

Art-A-Whirl is an open studio tour throughout Northeast Minneapolis and according to the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) site, is the largest open studio tour in the nation. There are so many unassuming warehouses and seemingly empty buildings that actually host amazing art studios. As much as the art was intriguing, just seeing the spaces was half the fun. I can't wait to convince my friends and family to visit for this next year. Hint, hint...

In addition to touring the lofts, studios, homes, storefronts, galleries, etc., there were food trucks and live music galore. The streets were packed with cars, pedestrians and bikers, not to mention beards, man buns and flannel, showcasing Northeast's finest. Man, I love this city.

No recipes today, just some fun highlights from this weekend, Art-A-Whirl and otherwise. This post really gets at the cornerstone of Minneapple Eats: Minneapolis. Food. Fun. So here you have it, in no particular order:

>>> We started at the California Building. Couldn't get over the cool old windows and the lush green backdrop, as well as the great city views as you climbed higher in the six-story, art-filled building.

>>> Art-ifacts,

>>> Casket Arts Building. Super cool inside.

>>> Souvenir: BBQ sauce from Riff's Smokehouse. Picked this up in the Casket Arts building, after devouring one of their $2 pulled pork sliders.

>>> Artist's loft at the Northrup King Building. Loved this particular space, had to take a pic.

>>> Coffee stop at Matchbox Coffee. Cheers to cheap {and good} iced coffee!

>>> Also passed through what used to be The Modern. A work of retro art itself.

>>> Beer cheese nachos from Gastrotruck. You had me at beer cheese.

>>> Indeed Brewing was buzzing. So many art studios are within walking distance. The otherwise quiet side streets came alive and were essentially unpassable.

>>> And this basically just sums everything up. Spotted at Spark Letterpress.

>>> Since we were already in Northeast, we decided to stop at Emily's Lebanese Deli and Holy Land to bring home ingredients for a light dinner. It, of course, inspired a new recipe. Stay tuned for that!
